Laborers' Union Officials Sentenced
September 23, 1982
A U.S. district court judge in Miami has sentenced four present and former officials of the laborers' union to prison terms ranging from five to 20 years.
The four were convicted of conspiring to receive more than $2 million in kickbacks in exchange for steering union insurance business to a Florida firm (ENR 7/1 p. 87).
The maximum 20-year sentence was given to Alfred Pilotto, president of laborers' Local 5 in Chicago and a trustee for several union funds.
The jury, which had convicted Pilotto and seven others, also acquitted three laborers' union officials -- including Angelo Fosco, president of the international.
